Circular Design
Design Classics for Generations
The Future of Design
To achieve the UN climate goals, the interior design industry must prioritize sustainability. The entire construction industry accounts for nearly 40% of CO2 emissions, making decisive action critical.Every initiative, optimization, and implementation aimed at resource-saving production is essential. Simultaneously, we must focus on the recyclability of furniture and design objects.
The Power of Design Classics
With Designheroes, we spotlight the circularity of design classics. These enduring pieces remain in use for generations, become cherished collector's items, and often appreciate in value. Multi-generational use is the most effective form of sustainability. The traditional separation of new and used products no longer seems relevant in many areas. In more and more prestigious projects, vintage pieces sit alongside new ones, in both private homes and commercial spaces. This trend is driven both by an increasingly environmentally conscious consumer base and by legislation mandating a defined percentage of budgets be spent on "pre-owned" products for certain building categories.
Conscious Consumerism
As consumers, we can make conscious choices about new products, ensuring they are valued across generations and thus remain within the circular economy.
Your Guide to Sustainable Design
Designheroes provides this guidance. We place new products in the context of past design classics that have already endured multiple use cycles and remain sought-after pieces. By contextualizing products, brands, and designers within the last 150 years of design history, we showcase their enduring cultural contribution and value.
Combating Waste, Protecting Design Integrity
Products that never hold any lasting value are strictly excluded from Designheroes. These harm our environment, future generations, and deceive the customer, as their market value drops to zero immediately upon purchase. This includes fast-furniture, copies and imitations of design classics, and no-name products created without designers simply to chase market trends. An estimated 9 million tons of furniture ends up in US landfills annually. A significant portion of this is cheaply made, contributing to both material waste and deforestation. Building on a Legacy of Circularity
The circular economy isn't a new invention. Auction houses have perfected this model for centuries. Design galleries, who sell both new unique pieces and vintage design, are another vital part of this ecosystem. We've made the techniques and principles of this "craft" part of Designheroes' DNA, combining it for the first time with brands and products representing the design classics of tomorrow. To protect our customers from fraudulent online offers, all partners and their collections on Designheroes are carefully vetted. Private individuals cannot list products on Designheroes; this is exclusively reserved for our partners.
